Joshua was preparing for his day to lead, but when it came, he still would need to know these promises from God.
Once they cross the Jordan, they have arrived at the land, but it is not unoccupied.
Not only does Joshua need to cross it, he has to lead people over.
Some are already settled.
Many are going to be scared.
But God is with them.
Saints, we have an incredible calling. We serve the King who has already won.
He has brought us his victory, but we are still here, in a hostile environment.
We are delivered, but the battle isn’t over.
In a moment we are going to pray from God’s word together.
But let me remind you, just as God reminded Joshua,
He won the battle.
Our courage is not
Our courage is that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
The gates of hell will not prevail against the advancement of the kingdom of God.

Joshua and the Israelites camped out for several days by the side of the Jordan. The river was at its peak. That was a lot of time to take in the challenge that awaited them.
The people were instructed to consecrate themselves and be ready. When the time came, the priests carrying the Ark were instructed to walk into the River.
Unlike the Red Sea, the Jordan did not part at Joshua’s command, showing them the path forward. They were called to walk and trust that God would work.
We’ve had time to look at the problems we are facing. Our churches have challenges of all kinds. Our communities are not knocking on our doors begging to hear about the savior. But we are called to prepare ourselves, trust the Lord and walk forward.
God didn’t fail them, He isn’t going to start failing us now.
Come boldly and remember he will lead us forward.
19 On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.
20 And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan.
21 He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’

Joshua has led the people through the Jordan river.
Spies were sent out, they met Rahab, and Israel is getting ready for their first battle.
Joshua has to prepare the people, this is a whole new generation of Israelites, these men were not circumcised in the wilderness, so Joshua has to oversee this.
As they are recovering, they enter a new season.
For generations God has been feeding his people, but now as they cross, Joshua 5:10-12 explains that when they arrive in this land of plenty, the manna stops.
God is now provided through their new home.
I wonder how different those meals were? New flavors, new lands, it’s exciting.
Joshua is visited by someone.
This exchange cuts through every single dividing line mankind has raised up.
We love to identify ourselves for big reasons and small reasons.
When christians are being pulled left and right by all sorts of competing issues, some that are good, this encounter helps us navigate our allegiances.
13 When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”
