Seven Questions with Steve Foss

Steve Foss
Information Technology Specialist
This week we feature Steve Foss, the Information Technology Specialist that solves all of our I.T.conundrums as best he can as part of the Business Services team. He has served the Convention for 20+ years. Many near and far are familiar with the name Foss, as his father served in several roles in CSBC covering a span of 37 faithful years. Steve gathers and compiles ACP data, manages the computer systems network, database, and anything else that plugs into a network. You best believe his number is on everyone’s speed dial at the sight of a black screen!

1. What podcast are you currently listening to?

I listen to quite a few, but one of my favorites is The Babylon Bee.

2. What biblical character (other than Jesus) would you want to meet, and why?

I would like to meet Mary and Joseph. I think it would be cool to hear the details of living with Jesus. They were just ordinary people that God chose to use in an ordinary way.

3. Toilet paper, under or over?

You know this morning, as I took a look at my kids’ bathroom... it just needs to be on the roll. Preferably over the top, but just as long as it’s on the roll that’s the biggest thing for me.

4. Who has been the most influential person in your Christian life, and why?

My parents, Emily and Wendell Foss have been the most influential for me. The integrity they carried throughout their life, marriage and their walk with the Lord gave me a foundation based in faith. I didn’t struggle to know the why’s growing up the way others did. I did go through my questioning periods here and there, but they didn’t last long because of the good foundation my parents provided.

5. What is one piece of advice you would want to give your younger self if you could?

Don’t jump into that pile of leaves, it’s not as soft as you think.

6. What is the most important role you fulfill in your life right now? Why?

Husband and father are the most important roles for me. We adopted 2 daughters after our sons were grown. Being an adoptive father is different from a biological one. Having the opportunity to relearn the dad things, and rediscovering the different ways to approach issues when raising boys versus girls. Being a father in any sense makes the deepest impact on who we raise our kids to be. Some advice I’ve taken to heart is that family is much more important than your career. In the end, what means the most to you will be the time spent with your family, not the hours spent at work.

7. When you think through all the names of Christ, what name resonates with you right now, and why?

The Image of the Invisible God, from Colossians 1:15. It reminds me the only way to understand God is by looking at Jesus.
