Seven Questions with Mike Bivins

Mike Bivins
Director of Disaster Relief
This week we feature Mike Bivins, State Director for CSBC Disaster Relief who has managed and overseen all ministry and operations of DR since 2016. That job title encompasses more than meets the eye when you consider all the moving components involved. Mike has a fleet of vehicles at the ready to assist in all the different disasters he, his team, and volunteers are deployed to. His team maintains the upkeep and management of those resources, as well as the trainings for new and returning volunteers so they can be prepared in all areas of disaster recovery, (physically, emotionally, and spiritually). Mr. Bivins is always looking at a way to reach out and help, both directly and indirectly and his heart of servanthood is ever present in all that he does.

1. What book are you currently reading?

I am currently reading “The Secret Key to Heaven” by Thomas Brooks. The book was originally published in 1665 during the Plague of London. Brooks, being a pastor and chaplain, experienced war, trials, disasters, and realized the importance and necessity of private prayer

2. What biblical character (other than Jesus) would you want to meet, and why?

I think I would like to meet Moses so I could gain insight and wisdom regarding how he handled the many disasters and plagues that he faced, all while he led the nation out of Egypt.

3. Toilet paper, under or over?

The answer is over unless I want to irritate my wife.

4. Who has been the most influential person in your Christian life, and why?

My grandfather ~who is now with the Lord, is who I would say has been my most influential person in my Christian life. He taught me the value of Christian servanthood. Because of him, serving God, the church, and others was impressed on me at a young age.

5. What is the most important role you fulfill in your life right now? Why?

I would say disciple. I am not only striving to be a better disciple of Jesus but also engaged in discipling other leaders, volunteers, and my own grandchildren.

6. If you could choose one place in the world to visit where would it be and why?

Oh gosh that’s a hard one. I just don’t know. Most of my travel around the world has been with disaster relief ministries. I think probably getting to retrace Paul’s missionary journey through modern day Turkey and Rome and those other surrounding areas would be the place I would like to visit.

7. When you think through all the names of Christ, what name resonates with you right now, and why?

Savior. I seem to have a heightened awareness of not only my need but also the world’s need for a savior.
