Seven Questions with Jason Blankenship

Jason Blankenship
Evangelism Initiatives Team Leader
We are kickstarting this series with Jason Blankenship: Evangelism Initiatives team leader. Jason came to the CSBC family, in September of 2020 and has since made substantial contributions to the team here in the office as well as across the state by empowering the local church to find success through evangelism efforts.

1. What book are you currently reading?

"Crucial Conversations" by Kerry Patterson. This book has had an enormous influence on me as a leader. It has helped the way I communicate daily. Every conversation has a "desired outcome," and sometimes our desired outcomes do not always align. This book has taught me how I can navigate conversations that drive us to a mutually beneficial outcome – while avoiding the pitfalls that come from disagreement.

2. What biblical character (other than Jesus) would you want to meet, and why?

There are several biblical figures I would love to meet, but if I had to choose just one, it would be Nehemiah. The reason is, that he was just an average guy, who did extraordinary things and exercised extraordinary leadership.

3. Toilet paper, under or over?

If I want to be permitted in the house, my wife says OVER. It is the LAW!

4. Who has been the most influential person in your Christian life, and why?

There have been several individuals who have meant a great deal to me. However, I would probably have to go with my childhood pastor, Deryl Lackey. During my early years, he was the Paul to my Timothy. He has transitioned from being my mentor to becoming a very good friend in my life.

5. What would be one piece of advice you would want to give to your younger self if you could?

Haha. Well, I have two answers, if that’s okay. Number 1 – Create deed restrictions in the churches I have pastored. If anyone has questions about deed restrictions, they should call Phil Kell. He will tell you everything you need to know. Number 2 – Take bigger risks.

6. If you could choose one place in the world to visit where would it be?

I would want to go to a bungalow over the ocean, in Bora Bora.

7. When you think through all the names of Christ, what name resonates with you right now, and why?

Abba because, of all the attributes that God carries, Abba defines the relationship as a father, and relates to me as the father I want to be. I like this unique form because it reflects who God is in relationship to me. To think that the Almighty Creator of the heavens, who spoke the universe into being in less than a sentence, I have the privilege of calling my Dad. It also speaks to me about who I am to imitate, who I am to honor, and whose name I represent.
