Seven Questions with Christopher Codrington

Christopher Codrington
Director of Missions, Greater Los Angeles & Coastal Cities Association of Churches
This week we bring you Reverend Christopher Codrington - one of the two Directors of Missions for the Greater Los Angeles & Coastal Cities Association of Churches! He currently also serves his congregation at Gardena Baptist Church. He has had extensive involvement with mission trip planning, coordinating trips to Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Brazil, and China. Real Estate is another area he specializes in with varying responsibilities of property management, supervising, maintenance, as well as a stint of time when he owned his own property management company. Christopher is celebrating 25 years with his wife Deborah this year! With the passing of his brother in 2021, Reverand Codrington has taken on the father-figure role for his 2 nephews and niece moving them to California from Georgia. While getting them settled into a new routine, he is also tackling his Master of Divinity through Gateway Seminary’s online program. To say he has learned the art of balancing is an understatement!

1. What podcast are you listening to right now?

There are no podcasts that I listen to on a regular basis, but I do enjoy watching resources from rightnowmedia.org. It’s a great resource for discipleship.

2. What biblical character (other than Jesus) would you want to meet, and why?

That would be Peter … and also James. I look at Peter because he is pragmatic. I feel -by nature- that I myself am a fix-it person. I have to be careful not to be too quick to go into that fix-it mode. I also feel that Peter gives us the concept of living holy and how to be an example of what that looks like. James on the other hand, taught that we have to be practical. We have to be able to live what we preach. Life is gonna happen anyways.

3. Toilet paper, under or over?

Oh gee! I have no idea. I don’t really care. It’s amazing you ask that question. I have never taken the time to think about that.

4. If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?

I would love to go back to China. When I visited there last, you could not openly talk about God. We used the Bible as a form of education. I remember one night specifically we gathered in one of the universities in Shanghai with about 50 students and discussed Bible stories about John. It is a very special memory for me. I love that country.

5. What is your favorite Bible verse?

I have a favorite chapter. Ephesians Chapter 4. When I read this passage, it reminds me that He is protecting me today and tomorrow. I have no worries about tomorrow. As a young person in my country (Trinidad), I left school at an early age, and I was saved when I was 15 years old. The education I received following that was built upon reading religious scripture. There was a missionary from the United States that came to Trinidad that opened a bookstore. I started going to that bookstore every day where I received discipleship from this missionary. I was self-taught about the Bible until I migrated to Canada when I was 22 years old and attended Bible college.

6. What is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?

Be patient. Just be patient. God does things in His time. Most of my wasted time is because I was not patient with God and His plan.

7. When you think through all the names of Christ, what name resonates with you right now and why?

Savior because He saved the whole me. I look at salvation as saving the whole soul, the whole man. I believe God maintains my health. I believe God provides for me financially. I believe God saved me in every aspect of life. He is my Savior.
