7 Questions with Matt Brower

Matt Brower
Marketing Coordinator, CSBC
This week we would like to introduce you to Matt Brower, the newest addition to the Office of Communications at the California Southern Baptist Convention serving in the role of Marketing Coordinator. Coming from a long career in Christian private education, Matt is eager to learn all the things and help further all the things related to kingdom work in California. He and his wife Jeannie share a sweet, red-haired daughter, Evie, and reside in Pomona. He enjoys time gardening, growing, and building things while educating Evie to learn about life with a strong perspective through a biblical lens.

What podcast are you listening to right now?

Thanks to Sarah Graham, I’ve been listening to the Carey Nieuwhof Leadership podcast. He is able to get highly successful leaders from across all parts of the business world who are doing kingdom work where we don’t even realize kingdom work is happening.

What biblical character (other than Jesus) would you want to meet, and why?

Daniel. It seems like life was a whirlwind for people who were around during his time. From situations with Nebuchadnezzar to being thrown into the lion’s den, Daniel was consistent in all the situations he was placed in.

Toilet paper, under or over?

Over. Absolutely. 100%. I very strongly disagree with anyone who says under.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?

Israel would be pretty cool. It is a hotbed of conflict, but I think it would be interesting to see the various cultures and how they find a way to live. Historically (and biblically), that’s the focal point of the life and times of Jesus. It would be an interesting walk through history, a glimpse into the culture Jesus was raised in.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

Micah 6:8. I look at it every single day and it reminds me to walk humbly with God and that He has chosen me. If you take a look at the verses preceding this one, it makes you think about what you have to do. It shows me what God wants from me. Living justly and walking humbly, it’s all about how we live and how we love.

Tell us something that nobody knows about you.

Well, there is the whole chicken thing…It’s a fun/different kind of pet to have, and people’s eyes usually go up when they hear I raise chickens. My chicken’s names are Taco, Sparkle, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Ella… everyone in the family got to name at least one chicken. There’s also the whole riding-a-motorcycle-for-a-good-while that people don’t seem to believe. About 10-12 years ago, riding a motorcycle was my primary form of transportation, but after getting married and having my daughter it just didn’t make sense to have that potential risk …not to mention considering the whole ‘Where would I put my daughter while I run errands?’

When you think through all the names of Christ, what name resonates with you right now and why?

Advocate, for sure. We have an advocate with the Father/Jesus Christ. I don’t have to be good enough. I don’t even have to be enough. I don’t have to defend myself because He is doing that for me. I am not enough, and I never will be.
