It is the Same God at Work

Mandarin Baptist Church of Temple City was a result of church planting efforts 16 years ago. From the very beginning, we have supported the Cooperative Program and the ministries of CSBC.

We are always grateful that we can be part of the spiritual family of CSBC and SBC. Theoretically speaking, we are part of the better sum. We truly believe that we can accomplish more when we are together!

Recently, our congregation has been studying Paul’s letters to the Corinthians. We are reminded of the importance of living and serving together as the body of Christ. It is such a blessing to have been given so much in our diversity of gifts and resources, just as it says in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6:

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

The apostle Paul further reminded us in verses 12-14,

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

I believe Paul was trying to help us to see even though we are different from each other, yet we are bonded by the Spirit, and we are parts of the whole. Just as the church in Corinth, we celebrate diversity among the CSBC family. We function differently, and therefore we can accomplish diverse ministries and meet the needs of various people groups. In the same passage, Paul stresses that diversity is a very good thing. In fact, it is the necessary thing that God has intentionally put together. In verses 18 through 20, it says,

But in fact, God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

It is rightly so that we are part of the body of Christ regardless of where we are from and what we embrace in our cultural understanding. We are one big spiritual body that has been redeemed by the blood of Christ!

We are grateful for the partnerships in evangelism and outreach programs put on by CSBC in the past year. The grants encourage churches to do outreach programs in our communities. During our training session, I observed a very diverse group of congregations represented. As a result of the grant money, our church was able to implement outreach events, such as craft, cooking, and ESL classes, as well as hiking activities with our members and community friends.

With the support and coordination of CSBC staff, we are also in the process of exploring partnerships with other churches aiming to provide support and enhance the effectiveness of serving and training our next generational English-speaking youth and young adults. This is one of the many wonderful initiatives that could meet the needs of smaller churches as well as to foster the spirit of partnership among the body of Christ in advancing God’s kingdom.

We will certainly continue to support and partner with CSBC to fulfill the Great Commission. Let’s press on together to reach the goal the Lord has set before us!
