Campers on Mission: Where Service Hits the Road

Campers on Mission (COM) is a national fellowship of evangelical Christian campers who volunteer their time, talents, and tools to share the love of Jesus in practical ways—all while enjoying the adventure of camping. These men and women serve with their hands and their hearts, often traveling from project to project in RVs, trailers, or even just their trusty cars, united by a simple mission: Sharing Christ as we go.

Originally formed through a partnership between the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (now the North American Mission Board) and the Church Recreation Department of the Sunday School Board (now Lifeway), COM has grown into a network of 1,800–2,000 members across 32 states. Today, and in most states, COM chapters operate in partnership with the state Baptist convention, with a designated liaison for communication and coordination for each chapter.

Here in California, Campers on Mission serve at Christian camps and churches across the state by painting, repairing, building, cleaning, and preparing facilities for ministry. In just the first six months of 2025, California COM volunteers drove 9,724 miles and gave 1,309 hours of labor to support three favourite ministry locations:

  • Cazadero Baptist Camp,
  • Jenness Park, and
  • Camp Alta.

You don’t need an RV, trailer, sleeping van, or even a tent to get involved in most of our mission projects. If you have a willing heart and a servant’s spirit you can join us as day volunteers and/or partner with the many who participate utilizing other forms of transportation or lodging.

Membership is open to all Bible-believing Christians who are active members (in good standing) of an evangelical church. In California, chapter leadership positions such as President and Vice President are held by active Southern Baptists. COM does not charge membership dues or fees, and as volunteers, we cover our own travel expenses.

Upcoming projects are regularly posted on the California Campers on Mission Facebook page. One such project is scheduled for September 7–12, 2025, at Jenness Park, and help is still needed!

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” ~1 Peter 4:10 (CSB)
