Here is the California Southern Baptist Convention mission giving reports for January-December 2020.
In 2020, unaudited CP gifts from churches totaled $6,014,539, or 93.7 percent of the $6,435,000 CP objective for the year. “This is excellent considering a global pandemic coupled with the loss of Jenness Park,” said Bill Agee, CSBC executive director. CSBC finished 2020 with a surplus of $968,126. Agee noted that as a “Hallelujah Report” because of faithful giving by churches and prudent management of those gifts. The Cooperative Program is Southern Baptists’ unified plan of giving through which churches give a percentage of their undesignated receipts to support of their respective state convention and the Southern Baptist Convention missions and ministries.
In 2019, messengers approved a reduction in the SBC’s portion of CP receipts from 35 to 30 percent to address budget shortfalls at the Executive Board and Jenness Park Christian Camp. With Executive Board budget adjustments complete and the sale of Jenness Park in July, funds for national and international missions and ministries were restored. The 5 percent, or about $300,000, for SBC world missions was given based on 2020 gifts. In 2021 the CSBC budget maintains 35 percent for SBC world missions.
Gifts to the California Mission Offering didn’t fare as well in 2020 totaling $323,788, or about 65 percent of the $499,999 goal. This also is an unaudited figure and represents a decrease of $117,356 compared to 2019 gifts. The California Mission Offering is an emphasis to pray for, give to and encourage mission action in California. Gifts to the offering to support evangelism, church planting, church revitalization and small church ministries in the Golden State. The offering also supports other ministries such as disaster relief, migrant ministries and association mission projects.
