Insight – June, 2017

Dear California Southern Baptists,

Let me introduce myself. I am Dr. Bill Agee, and I have been married to Pam for 41 years. We have a son, Adam, who is 37 and the lead singer for the Christian band Audio Adrenaline, and a daughter, Amy, who is 34 and a curator for the Museum of the Bible.

We have three wonderful grandchildren: Emma, 10, and Jack, 4 (Adam and Sharon’s), and Sarah, 9, who is Amy and TJ’s daughter.

Pam and I are excited to be in California!

“Insight” implies apprehending the true nature of something and gaining an accurate and deep understanding of it. I hope to, on a regular basis, help readers of the California Southern Baptist gain a deep and better understanding of what is happening around our state among our churches.

As your executive director I am committed to two basic priorities. Resourcing the vision of our churches will be our top priority, followed closely by assisting churches in revitalization and the birthing of new and healthy church plants.

In the book, “The Myth of Excellence,” authors Fred Crawford and Ryan Mathews address the danger of attempting to be the best at everything. To try to be the best at everything will lead to failure every time.

The authors declare that an organization must choose to dominate something and differentiate itself in something, and everything else will take care of itself.

We as a Convention will dominate resourcing the unique vision of our churches, which may take many forms, and we will differentiate ourselves in how we respond to our churches in need of revitalization and church planting.

We are told to love the Lord our God with all our soul, mind and strength and love our neighbor as ourself. If we allow our relationship with God to dominate our life and decision-making and we differentiate ourself in how we treat others, we will see God bless our lives and ministry.

If we as a Convention fulfill these priorities God will bless our ministry and our churches.

I hope in these monthly columns to give you an Insight into what is happening in our churches and around our state. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve the Lord through CSBC.
