A new year is always exciting. If things have not gone your way it can be a new beginning. If everything has been what you had hoped for, a new year can be a continuation of joy and satisfaction.
California Southern Baptist Convention is poised to enter this new year with great excitement and expectation. All key indicators are signaling 2019 to be an amazing year.
Our teams are touching a significant number of churches of all sizes, contexts and cultures regarding evangelism, revitalization, small churches and church planting. I am especially excited for the way the small churches are feeling more involved in the work of the Convention.
Our churches in 2018 displayed amazing faithfulness in their support of the Cooperative Program and the California Mission Offering. At the time of this writing the Cooperative Program is on track to be between $150,000-200,000 more than the previous year, and more than it has been in many years.
The California Mission Offering in 2017 was the largest one in the past decade, and we’re on track to exceed that amount in 2018.
All I can say is, Praise the Lord and thank you, churches!
The Convention’s Executive Board is another point of excitement. The Board is stepping up and functioning in a way that provides accountability as well as freedom for the staff to do their ministry even more effectively.
The Board is ethnically diverse and balanced with clergy and laity as well as men and women both young and old. I am so thankful for the people who serve so faithfully on this Board.
Please pray as the Board meets for its regular January meeting, the 24th and 25th.
And pray for us, your Convention staff, as this year unfolds, that we will
write an amazing story of God’s love and faithfulness on this new page of history.
I am convinced God wants to do much more than we can ask or think. May God increase our faith as we serve Him together!
