I was hesitant at first about this new chapter as the wife of a new DOM in San Diego. I’ve been a pastor’s wife for 31 years and absolutely love it. That said, as I’ve met other DOM wives, one word keeps coming to mind: impressed. These women are kind, humble, devoted to Jesus, servant-hearted, and truly want to advance the mission to reach more people and touch more lives.
I count it an honor to lock arms with them! I truly believe that our role in the church is crucial. Statistics show that for the first time men are becoming Christians and following Christ at a higher rate than women (Stats from Ed Stetzer). I’m thrilled to see the men rise up, but I also feel strongly that we need more Esthers and Deborahs who will rise up “for such a time as this,“ and help shepherd the flock with integrity and kindness and boldness.
Although I’m not employed by our association, a role I’ve taken on is to encourage pastors’ wives along with other women in ministry. My hope is that these wives will be strengthened and encouraged to press on in helping others find and follow Jesus.
One verse I’m praying over these women is Psalm 52:8:
“I will be like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God.”
Think about how many olives are on an olive tree?! A lot. May it be that pastors and their wives would bear much fruit—for the glory of God and the advancement of His Kingdom.
